ˈsig-nə-ˌchu̇r “something that serves to set apart or identify”. Old wisdom states that imitation is the best form of flattery and since the publication of my book “Matching Major Eastern Hatches”, there has been a lot of imitation of those fly designs.

Until further notice I will not be accepting orders. This is effective May 08, 2021. Thank you

Offered here are my original “Signature” patterns tied by myself using all the best quality materials on the planet. All of them were developed and tested over a lifetime of fishing waters across the U.S. and have earned a place in my fly boxes because they work on tough fish. While many anglers pride themselves with carrying beautifully crafted fly rods and precision machined reels and other equipment, at the end of the day and at the end of your tippet, it’s the fly that gets
it done.

CDC Thorax Duns

My "modernized" version of Vince Marinaro's iconic Thorax Dun design preserves the key elements or "triggers" Vince emphasized in the original. My pattern incorporates modern materials that create a truly effective mayfly dun imitation and pay tribute to the master himself.

Half & Half Emergers

As the patterns name implies, a film pattern that captures the illusion of a mayfly dun partially emerged from the nymphal shuck perfectly.
The "Half & Half" has become a "go to" emerger pattern for myself and many of my customers,
and by far my most highly demanded Signature pattern.

DOA Cripple Emergers

The DOA, or "Dead on Arrival" Cripple Emerger captures the illusion of a mayfly during the difficult process of emergence at the film. Some mayfly species are more prone to difficulties and casualties than others, and this Signature pattern was designed to imitate those knocked down or crippled mayflies that some trout seem to key on.

DNA Spinners

The final hour of the day often brings the quiet, sipping rises that indicate trout feeding on spent or dying spinners in the film. Larger fish will often focus on spinners as they require less energy to consume than more active stages of the mayfly lifecycle. This is the only spinner pattern you will find in my fly boxes, and for a very good reason.

Parachute Dna Spinners

My DNA Spinner pattern tied in a unique parachute style that is highly effective for those giant drake spinners. The parachute is tied from the beautiful Spanish Coq de Leon Pardo hackle; who’s mottled pattern is highly imitative of the speckled wings on these larger mayflies.

Parachute Ants

Pennsylvania fly fishing is synonymus with fishing ant patterns. From the early pioneers like Joe McCaffrey, Vince Marinaro, Ed Sutryn and others, my own contribution to the imitation of the ant. A wickedly effective pattern that sits tight in the film like a real ant does with a bright post to help you see it on the water. An assortment of ants should be part of your summer and fall fly arsenal wherever your fishing adventures take you.

CDC Adult Caddis

Caddisflies are everywhere, and this pattern has caught fish everywhere I've used them. Nothing captures the illusion of life and movement better than CDC, and the unique "bullet-head" doesn't obstruct the hook eye like so many hairwing caddis patterns do.

Little Yellow Stonefly

The initial design of this unique fly was born at the headwaters of Little Pine creek in the 1980's and remains unchanged since then. From late May, through the summer months these insects are a staple in the trout's diet and a "go to" pattern in much of my own fishing. A great fly during an Isoperla hatch or as a search pattern anytime during the day.

Stonefly Nymphs

The perfect balance between an impressionistic and realistic imitation, resulting from a lifelong fascination with these nymphs and the creative possibilities that a larger insect offers to a tyer. Just in case you were wondering, they catch a lot of fish too.
